Cricket has a long history in Uganda, with the country fielding an international team for the first time in 1914 agains the East Africa Protectorate. Uganda has competed in the ICC World Trophy, the ICC World Cup Qualifier and since 2019, has competed in the ICC Cricket World Challenge League.
In the summer of 2020, equitysport entered into a multi-faceted partnership with the Ugandan Cricket Association (UCA) with a view to build capacity at all levels of the game in the country, with a particular focus on improving access, participation and performance of the women’s game.
As part of the agreement, equitysport is providing significant mentoring support to UCA staff, from coaches to administrative staff and has provided specialist local staff to assist in the continued development of the sport in Uganda on the playing side.
June 2020: equitysport and Cricket Uganda form capacity building and education partnership.
July 2020: Phase 1 of 3 of the partnership launched.
July 2020: Edgar Kazibwe; equitysport mentee and Sports Psychologist installed with Cricket Uganda.
July 2020: Mentorship programme launched with 10 UCA staff.
