We’re delighted to announce that equitysport mentee and aspiring sports psychologist: Edgar Kazibwe will join Cricket Uganda, the National Governing Body for cricket in Uganda for an initial six-month placement.
Kazibwe will be providing sports psychology support to the Ugandan national representative teams under the continued mentorship of the highly accomplished UK-based Sports Psychologist: Hannah Stoyel.
This placement underlines the determination of equitysport to continue to grow opportunities and reward our highlighted practitioners in some of the most under-served sporting communities in the world with opportunities.
Garnet Mackinder, equitysport Trustee said of the appointment:
“Developing the local workforce in traditionally under-served sporting communities is a key component of our mission to advance equality, diversity and equal opportunity in sport.
When local coaches, practitioners and clinicians are provided with the support they need to excel through our mentorship programmes, it not only helps level the playing field in sport, but also builds wider capacity in the region for these communities to take control of their own destiny .
We are very grateful to Cricket Uganda for facilitating this placement and we’re looking forward to building on this partnership moving forward. Special thanks to Martin, Denis and John in Kampala, and to Edgar’s equitysport Mentor; Hannah Stoyel here in the UK.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, our supporters, donors and partners, I wish the very best of luck to Edgar and hope that this initial six months with Cricket Uganda will be hugely valuable to all parties."
Edgar joins a growing list of equitysport mentees working within Uganda's national sporting ecosystem with sports science peer: Felix Ayobo, supporting Uganda’s national football team under the mentorship of Jack Nayler.
The appointment, as part of a flourishing partnership between the equitysport and Cricket Uganda signals the commitment of both organisations to push Ugandan cricket forward, diversify the international game and support it's ongoing development in traditionally under-served regions.
