Accra-based Ghanian NGO, Martisans Sports and Cultural Foundation has partnered with equitysport in a determined bid to increase opportunities in and out of sport for underserved communities in the region.

Martisans Sports and Cultural Foundation (MSCF) is a pioneering sports development organisation working with fishing communities living along the coast of Accra. The foundation exists to provide free access and participation opportunities in sport for children from some of the most disadvantage communities in the region - with a particular focus on tackling gender inequality.

The exciting new partnership will see equitysport provide mentorship support to Martisans staff and volunteers, helping disseminate current global best practice and forging mutually-beneficial learning relationships across the global North - South divide.

This latest partnership underlines the determination of equitysport to continue to grow opportunities in and through sport in some of the most under-served and disadvantaged communities in the world.

Tim Harper, equitysport Founder said of the new partnership:

“Martisans are doing incredible work in Ghana and we're absolutely thrilled to be partnering with such a determined organisation. Helping develop the local workforce in traditionally under-served sporting communities is a key component of our mission to advance equality, diversity and equal opportunity in sport.

When local coaches, volunteers and development staff are provided with the support they need to excel through our mentorship programmes, the impact in the locality can be immense.

Not only do partnerships such as this help develop local capacity in sports development programmes, but also facilitates the opportunity for these communities to take control of their own destiny without unnecessary imposition or undue reliance on outside support.

We’re hugely excited by what Martisans are striving to achieve against all the odds and we’re delighted to be working with Desmond and his team.”

Desmond Mantey, MSCF Founder and CEO added:

"Creating an opportunity for the less privileged has always been our priority and it’s a great pleasure to partner with equitysport in our bid to support the development of our community youth through our sports and cultural projects.

MSCF is highly confident that this partnership will enhance the knowledge and capacity of our staff, coaches and volunteers and subsequently lead to enhanced effectiveness and efficiency of our community projects in support of the UN SDG 2030.

This partnership is in the right direction and MSCF is hopeful it will positively impact the youth including the girls in our community."
